Wine Lalomba Rosé 2016

Lalomba Rosé is soft pink, salmon coloured.

The word Lalomba, that means hill or mountainside, comes from a zone in Yerga, where our vineyard is.

The vineyard’s context is really linked to its quality: altitude, little deep land, cropping limiting factor.

Even if Ramon Bilbao had been elaborating wines from grapes grown in these vineyards since 2000, it is in 2015 when he separates parcels and starts treating wines individually. Then, a new and select collection of only 10.000 bottles is born.

The 2016 grape harvest has been one of the most premature in the last decades. The meteorological conditions have allowed the plant’s perfect development during the whole vegetative cycle. A cold winter and plenty of precipitations that have given our vineyards enough water resources for the whole year. The springtime was fresh, helping this way the good germination and development of many good quality bunches. Hot summer, specially the month of July, that has been the hottest one in Rioja. The months of September and October have brought some precipitations that have helped to the full physiological and phenolic development and a good health of bunches.

Handmade grape harvest in small 15 kilos boxes, that where refrigerated and transported until the wine cellar where they remained in a cold atmosphere 24 hours more. Afterwards, the grapes passed to the optical selection table, so that the best selection of destemmed, whole and in perfect state grapes was done. After that, they were taken to the press, and in a cold atmosphere the maceration was initiated. Six hours later, and after several sample collections, the oenologists decided to decant and the grape-juice was obtained by the traditional saignée (bleeding) method by gravity, without any automatic pressing. The productivity is around 40%. This grape-juice is transferred to a stainless steel tank for settling during 24 hours, and after that the clean grape-juice is collected to be fermented during twenty days in less than 15ºC in order to preserve at maximum the plus delicate aromas. Once completed the fermentation, the wine is decanted for a following maceration with the fine lees during about one month.

Lalomba Rosé is soft pink, salmon coloured. Subtle flower aromas get the nose and compose a range of fresh red fruits, roses and cherries.
