Vino La Vicalanda Gran Reserva 2010

La Vicalanda was born in 1994 and was one of the first "Alta Expresión" wines in La Rioja.

Today, La Vicalanda has become a reference of quality in the Denomination of Origin. It is a wine that expresses the character of the land using both traditional and innovative techniques, with daily and personalized care of the entire production process, from the vineyard to the bottling. A wine with a more intense colour, more fruit and with more expressive tannins than traditional Rioja wines.

The vineyards from which La Vicalanda Gran Reserva comes are located in a privileged enclave in the Municipality of Haro, where a mixture of the Atlantic and Continental climates is produced, giving a special and exceptional bonanza to the Tempranillo grapes.

The soils are calcareous and gravelly and therefore poor, deep and well-drained.

The vines, formed in a goblet, are pruned in short and in spring they are pruned in green, eliminating the non-fertile sprouts, thus favouring the entrance of light and the solar exhibition. If necessary, a green harvest is carried out to guarantee low and balanced productions with low vigour.

They are cultivated under principles of sustainable agriculture and minimum intervention, acting only when really necessary through adobe and pest control. No insecticides are applied and ecological techniques of sexual confusion are used to control the vine moth and thus avoid the appearance of botrytis. The natural fertility of the soil is also promoted through temporary plant cover.
