More information Koriyama Blended Whisky Whisky
Founded in 1765, Sasanokawa Shuzo is the oldest sake brewery in the Tohoku region, located in the Nort-East of Japan.
The licence to produce whisky was granted in 1946, a turning point in the history of Asaka Distillery
Rightly nicknamed the distillery of the wind due to being swept up by the dreaded "Bandai Oroshi", this part of the world also bears very hot summers and has winters. This atmospheric contrast strongly impacts the whiksy profile, resulting in a perfectly balanced and delicate whisky.
Koriyama is a tribute toe the lowlands where Asaka distillery was built.
It is reputed for its significant carp farming and its pure water originating from lake Inawashiro, making it ideal for whisky distillation.
The making of Kōriyama is a true work of art. It is made from a blend of grain whiskies (corn-based) and the distillery's own malts (7%) distilled twice in traditional pot stills, a traditional method that gives the whisky exceptional depth. To perfect its character, this whisky is then carefully aged in Bourbon and new American oak casks, where it acquires richness and balance.

On the palate, you'll discover a fruity indulgence with nuances of juicy apricot and caramel, wrapped in a round, silky texture. The finish, meanwhile, offers woody accents slightly lifted by notes of roasted cocoa, adding a touch of complexity. |
