Torres 5 is distinguished by its aromatic notes and intense flavour.
The surname Torres has been linked to wine for more than three centuries, when its ancestors settled in the Penedès, a land of wine since Phoenician times.
His family dedicated themselves to the cultivation of their land, passing on their devotion from generation to generation.
Some years passed until they started to market their wines. It was in 1800, when they started their commercial activity, with a horse-drawn cart that transported the wine in wooden barrels.
It was on Jaime Torres Vendrell's return from Cuba that the Torres family began its national and international expansion. Jaime Torres arrived with the idea of exporting the wines of Catalonia to Cuba, Argentina and Puerto Rico.
In 1870 Jaime and Miguel Torres Vendrell, together with their father, formed the Torres y CIA company and the construction of the first winery in Vilafranca del Penedès began.
Their wines gained great prestige wherever the intrepid captains of Sitges and Vilanova transported them. Cartagena de Indias, Santiago de Cuba, Veracruz, Bremen, Hamburg and Saint Petersburg were some of their destinations. They won prizes and honourable mentions in Vienna, Philadelphia and Paris.
The Torres family's restless spirit meant that they did not only produce wines, from the very beginning brandis distillation played an important role; Juan Torres Casals was the great promoter of brandy around 1928.
The tenacity and spirit of risk of Miguel Torres Carbó is responsible for Torres' expansion in the world. He always remembered his beginnings, with his bottles in hand selling them to the best restaurants and shops of the time.
The Civil War caused a great crisis. In 1939 the winery was bombed, but with the efforts of Miguel Torres Carbó and the help of Doña Margarita, his wife, it was rebuilt.
Successors to Miguel Torres Carbó
Since then, Torres' progress in the world has continued to grow and settle. In 1979 the winery in Chile's Central Valley (Curicó) was opened; there a great variety of its wines are made in privileged lands without phylloxera, as the whole country is free of it.
Marimar Torres is the great presence of Torres in California. She is the creator of such elegant wines as her Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These wines grow in a vineyard in the Sonoma County Appellation of Origin, Russian River/Green Valley.
Her family, generation after generation, has passed on the secret of making their great wines and the love of their land. This tradition, and their vision of the future, have made Torres a great export company that currently reaches more than 130 countries.
Torres Reserva 5 Years
The distillation of white wines is a practice that, in the Penedès region, dates back to Arnau de Vilanova (13th century). TORRES Brandy was born in 1928, when Don Juan Torres began to age the spirits distilled from his wines in oak barrels. The "holandas", obtained through the distillation of selected white wines, are aged in American oak barrels, using the traditional soleras method. At the end of the ageing process, a small quantity of old brandy is extracted from each of the oldest soleras and these barrels are then filled with brandis de reserva, more than two years old. This is how this very old and noble brandy is obtained, with an intense aroma, velvety body and delicate palate.
