A fruit-forward Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero
Septiembre Roble is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero D.O., produced by Uvaguilera using 100% Tempranillo grapes grown in vineyards around La Aguilera, Burgos. A short period of ageing in French and American oak barrels adds roundness and structure without overshadowing the grape's naturally fruity character.
This Ribera del Duero is an appealing choice for those looking for a balanced, fresh and approachable red wine. Its combination of fruit and subtle oak makes it equally enjoyable with everyday meals or at informal gatherings, without the intensity often associated with wines that undergo longer barrel ageing.
Tempranillo from the vineyards of La Aguilera
The grapes come from selected vineyards close to the winery in La Aguilera, a village in the province of Burgos with a long-standing winemaking tradition within Ribera del Duero.
Winemaking begins with fermentation in stainless steel tanks for approximately 10 days. The wine then remains in the same tanks for a further 12 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel.
This approach is designed to preserve the natural expression of Tempranillo before its brief period in oak, resulting in an approachable wine with plenty of fruit character.
Ageing in a combination of French and American oak
One of the distinguishing features of Septiembre Roble is its ageing in a combination of 50% French oak and 50% American oak.
This combination introduces subtle spice notes and softens the wine's structure without masking its varietal character. The result is a rounded red with gentle tannins and refreshing acidity, maintaining an appealing balance between fruit and oak.
Compared with the Crianza and Reserva styles of Ribera del Duero, this wine offers a more straightforward, fruit-led expression, with oak playing a supporting rather than a dominant role.
How to serve Septiembre Roble and what to pair it with
We recommend serving Septiembre Roble at 14–16°C, a temperature that enhances its freshness and allows the balance between fruit and oak to shine through.
Its versatile character makes it an excellent match for Ibérico cured meats, grilled meats, meat-based rice dishes, tapas and semi-mature cheeses. It also pairs well with traditional Castilian dishes and relaxed, informal meals where a structured yet easy-drinking red wine is the ideal choice.
At Licorea, we consider it an excellent introduction to Ribera del Duero for those who prefer a wine with a lighter oak influence. Its origins in La Aguilera, carefully selected Tempranillo grapes and combination of two types of oak create a balanced, approachable red that is particularly versatile at the table.
