Coy Hill Rye 10-Year-Old: Jack Daniel’s Most Intense Rye

Discover Coy Hill Rye, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel made with rye, aged for at least ten years and bottled at cask strength, with proof varying from barrels

Jack Daniel’s is expanding its rye whiskey range with Coy Hill Rye, a new release in its Special Release series. It brings together extended maturation, single-cask selection and bottling without reducing the strength. This is not a classic Tennessee whiskey from the distillery: here, the focus is on a rye-led mash bill and the maturation conditions at Coy Hill, the highest point on the distillery grounds.

A rye recipe with a Tennessee signature

The mash bill is made up of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley.

After distillation, the new make spirit passes through sugar maple charcoal, a step associated with the so-called Lincoln County Process. In this case, the spirit is filtered through a shorter layer of charcoal than the one used for the brand’s high-corn whiskey.

Charcoal mellowing is part of the identity of many Tennessee whiskeys, though it does not replace barrel ageing or determine the final profile on its own. In Coy Hill Rye, the character also depends on the recipe, maturation time and the way each barrel develops.

Ten years of ageing and bottled at cask strength

The barrels are made from American oak and, according to information released by the distillery, each has been aged for at least ten years. They come from different levels of the warehouses on Coy Hill. A barrel’s location and precise position influence how it develops, so a single-barrel release may vary from bottle to bottle.

The whiskey is bottled at cask strength, without being brought down to a standard proof. As a result, strength varies by barrel: the range given for this release is 128.7 to 148.5 proof, equivalent to approximately 64.35–74.25% ABV.

This is a high-strength whiskey, best sipped slowly. Add a few drops of water if you like to explore how it opens up on the nose and palate.

A new chapter in the story of Coy Hill

The Special Release series gives Jack Daniel’s a chance to present expressions that differ from its regular range. Coy Hill has already been the setting for other high-proof releases, mainly focused on Tennessee whiskey. This bottling shifts the attention to rye and continues the exploration of how its barrels respond to ageing at elevation.

The appeal of this release lies both in its stated minimum age and its Single Barrel format: each barrel is selected and bottled separately, so absolute consistency across all bottles is not necessarily the aim. That variation is part of the experience for anyone who enjoys comparing whiskeys from the same distillery.

How to serve it and what to keep in mind

Given its strength, it can be enjoyed neat in a tasting glass, left to rest for a few minutes before sipping. A few drops of water can soften the alcohol and bring the nuances of rye and oak into sharper focus. It can also pair with boldly flavoured dishes such as roast meats or aged cheeses, as long as the whiskey does not overpower the food.

Launch information places its arrival on the US market in October 2026. This does not confirm availability in Spain, which will depend on local distribution. For rye whiskey fans, Coy Hill Rye offers a chance to see how Jack Daniel’s combines its Tennessee method with a rye-led recipe and extended ageing.
