Wine Ramon Bilbao Selección de la Familia Reserve 2018

Ramón Bilbao Reserva de la Familia is presented as a unique wine, capable of breaking the mould and venturing into new horizons. This “Family Selection” pays tribute to the person who always believed in the passion for wine while being backed by decades of tradition, experience, and craftsmanship.

Its character combines the best of a classic wine—traditionally crafted and aged for an extended period in oak barrels—with a contemporary twist: it preserves the freshness and fruity character of the Rioja tempranillo grape. It’s a nod to the unmistakable style of Ramón Bilbao’s beginnings, reimagined to create a wine that blends past and present.

GRAPE VARIETY

The predominant grape is tempranillo (100%), complemented by some scattered white varieties like malvasía and garnacha blanca.

TERROIR

The fruit comes from two vineyards spanning 13 hectares in Villalba de Rioja, located at 650 metres above sea level. The soils are sandy with loose sandstone, and the vines were planted in 1942 and 2005.

WINEMAKING

It all begins in French oak vats, where the must ferments and macerates for 20 days. The malolactic fermentation then takes place in new French oak barrels, ensuring the perfect integration of aromas and flavours. The wine remains in these same barrels for 20 months for ageing before being bottled. After that, it undergoes a second resting phase in the bottle to achieve full balance and perfect refinement.
