Glenfiddich 28 Year Old and Aston Martin: Whisky, Oak and Design

Explore Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin: its mix of oak casks, official tasting notes and announced launch details for this mature Speyside single malt.

Some collaborations are built chiefly around design, while others make the contents of the bottle their main talking point. Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin brings both dimensions together: a Speyside single malt shaped by several types of oak and presented in a design developed with the British carmaker.

The whisky was distilled at Glenfiddich in Dufftown and filled into casks in the late 1990s. Its stated age of 28 years places it among the distillery’s more mature releases. The edition is credited to malt master Brian Kinsman and, according to information provided by the brand, is due to arrive in January 2027 at selected outlets in the United States and in the international travel retail channel.

Three oak influences in a mature single malt

The cask combination is the most intriguing aspect for anyone drawn to this release for the whisky itself, beyond its link with Aston Martin. Some of the spirit was first matured in American oak and then in virgin American oak: new wood that had not previously held whisky. It is joined by components from European oak casks seasoned with Oloroso and traditional casks that previously held bourbon.

Each type of oak can bring different nuances. American oak is often associated with sweet vanilla and spice notes, while Oloroso casks can contribute richer, darker flavours. In a long-matured blend, the challenge is to bring these influences together without letting the oak overshadow the spirit’s character. In this case, the distillery describes a profile that retains the orchard fruit notes associated with Glenfiddich.

The stated strength is 43.7% ABV. That figure alone cannot tell you exactly how the whisky will taste, but it does offer a practical reference for serving. If you open a bottle, it makes sense to start with a small measure neat, then add a few drops of water and taste as you go: the brand notes that this may bring out hints of bitter orange and marmalade.

Tasting notes from the distillery

Glenfiddich describes a nose of creamy toffee, vanilla and light confectionery notes. Official tasting notes point to a smooth texture on the palate, vanilla sweetness and pronounced oak tannins. The finish is described as long, with wood and a warm, spicy feel. These are not independent tasting notes: they are impressions published by the brand and are best read as a guide, rather than an outside assessment.

A single malt of this kind can be served in a tulip-shaped glass, which helps concentrate the aromas, and left to rest for a few minutes before tasting. It needs no strongly flavoured accompaniments. A mild, aged cheese or a dark chocolate with little sugar can offer a contrast, though starting without food is the simplest way to get to know its nuances.

A collaboration with a distinctive visual identity

The bottle and presentation box draw on Aston Martin’s Podium Green, with copper-coloured details and Glenfiddich’s stag emblem. The design aims to evoke the lines of a car in motion, while the shared story links the period when the casks were filled with the years Aston Martin was developing concepts that would lead to later models.

The partnership between the two brands was announced in 2024, initially in connection with the Aston Martin Formula 1 team, and later extended to its road cars. Earlier releases in the collaboration came at different ages; this bottle focuses on longer maturation and the appeal of a collectible. Even so, the presentation cannot replace the most important consideration for a whisky enthusiast: whether the maturation profile and distillery style suit their preferences.

Availability and details yet to be confirmed

The press release we received announces a January 2027 launch at a recommended price of $899 for a 70 cl bottle, with sales at selected outlets in the United States and international travel retail locations.

No bottle count or official price for Spain or the European market has been announced.

Glenfiddich 28 Year Old Aston Martin looks set to appeal to those who follow aged Speyside single malts and collaborations between distilleries and design brands. Its appeal will depend on how well the different oak influences come together, as well as on the tasting experience—something that can only be fully assessed once bottles are available to try.
