Malabusca, premium gin and rum with a Mediterranean spirit
Malabusca was born in 2016 in eastern Spain, between the Mediterranean and the mountains of Alicante, founded by Santi, Óscar and César. Their aim is to reinterpret traditional spirits recipes with independence, creativity and a distinctive Mediterranean identity.
The company brings this philosophy to life at The Liquid Office, its conceptual space dedicated to experimentation and research, where ideas, raw materials and classic techniques are transformed into distinctive drinks.
The secret behind its production
The gin is made with neutral wheat spirit and 12 individually distilled botanicals, including juniper, bergamot, cardamom, spearmint, sage and lemon thyme. For its rums, the company explores two different traditions: column distillation for the Spanish style and the use of Pot Still distillation for the British style. Both undergo genuine ageing in ex-bourbon American oak casks, for eight and six years respectively.
Our range: Which Malabusca should you choose?
The collection offers three very different interpretations of premium Spanish spirits, ranging from a balsamic London Dry Gin to two distinctive approaches to rum.
- Malabusca Gin: a 42% London Dry Gin, dry, balsamic and complex, with citrus fruits, Mediterranean herbs, spices and a pronounced juniper character.
- Malabusca Spanish Style Rum: an elegant and smooth blend, column-distilled and genuinely aged for eight years in ex-bourbon American oak casks.
- Malabusca British Style Rum: drier, fuller-bodied and more persistent; it incorporates Pot Still distillation and matures for six years in ex-bourbon casks.
Where is Malabusca made?
Its spirits are produced in the province of Alicante, on Spain's Mediterranean coast. The brand proudly embraces its Mediterranean origins, particularly reflected in the botanicals selected for its gin and in its overall production philosophy.
What is the difference between Malabusca Spanish Style Rum and British Style Rum?
The Spanish Style uses column distillation and focuses on finesse and smoothness. The British Style incorporates Pot Still distillation, resulting in greater body, structure and persistence. They are also aged for eight and six years respectively in ex-bourbon American oak casks.
What awards has Malabusca won?
Its gin has received international recognition in London, Hong Kong and San Francisco. In 2025, both rums won gold medals at the London Spirits Competition, where the Spanish Style was also named Best Spirit from Spain.
Malabusca in cocktails
The distinctive character of its spirits allows them to stand out in cocktails rather than disappearing behind the other ingredients. The gin contributes balsamic freshness, while the rums can be used in everything from lighter mixed drinks to more intense classics.
