There's an old joke in the distillery that says: "If we could do it any faster, we wouldn't do it". Because at Maker's Mark, it's one bottle at a time. Every single time. That's as true today as it was when the founders filled the first bottle. And since then, it's a widely held belief out there that character isn't made by machines.
Bill Samuels changed the way Bourbon was made. He simply wanted a whiskey he liked to drink. Maker's Mark®, which is never bitter or sharp, is made with soft red winter wheat instead of the usual rye for a unique, full-flavoured, easy-drinking bourbon.
To ensure consistency, they rotate each barrel by hand and age the bourbon to taste, not time. Each and every bottle of Maker's® is still hand-dipped in their signature red wax at their Loretto, Kentucky distillery, just as Bill, Sr. would have wanted.
