Royal Salute Polo Edition is the first whisky of the brand finished in barrels of Argentine Malbec wine.
In 2017, the Royal Salute Polo Collection made its debut with the Polo Edition, followed by the Polo Beach Edition a year later, and the Polo Snow Edition in 2019, the latter inspired by the winter sport practised in St Moritz.
After a two-year break, the most recent and fourth addition to this esteemed portfolio of limited edition 21-year-old blends is the Polo Estancia Edition, paying homage to Argentina, universally known as the "birthplace of polo". The term 'Estancia' refers to a large private landholding in South America used for agriculture, cattle farming, or even polo matches.
This expression, another masterpiece from Royal Salute's Master Blender Sandy Hyslop, appeals to both whisky and wine enthusiasts, thanks to the use of the finest Malbec wine barrels from Argentina. Additionally, it is Royal Salute's first Scotch whisky finished in these barrels.
The result is an exceptional, velvety, full-bodied, and luxuriously fruity whisky, which brings forth notes of raspberry and blackberry compote for those who acquire the Polo Estancia Edition. All of this is complemented by subtle hints of spiced cinnamon, plum jam, and dark ginger and chocolate.
According to Sandy Hyslop, we achieved an exceptional integration of the robust and highly recognizable flavours of the Malbec wine barrels with our rich whiskies, all aged for at least 21 years. This task requires constant care and attention.
The result is the Polo Estancia Edition, an outstanding blend born from this bold pairing, where only the finest Malbec wine barrels from Argentina were used for the final maturation.
Our new whisky is presented in a beautiful 70cl porcelain decanter in sunset red colour, with golden details and a golden topper. The stunning gift box containing the expression is equally dazzling, with magnificent illustrations depicting the sidelines of a polo match and the lifestyle of Argentine polo.
