More information Heredad Mestral 2008 Wine
The Priorat region is one of Spain's wine gems. Very close to the sea, and less than 100 kilometres from Barcelona, the Priorat vineyards are picturesque and characteristic. With a peculiar terraced layout due to the rugged terrain, the vines in the area are nourished by the characteristic soil, covered with Llicorella, which is dry and has low water retention.
In addition to the particularities of the soil, the climate of the area is a challenge for the grape, which has to withstand temperature variations between night and day. Thus, the small, concentrated grapes retain a lot of acidity which gives them their impressive character and robustness.
The winery works with the original Priorat varieties, Grenache and Cariñena, and the imported varieties Syrah and Merlot. We age in French and American oak barrels and make coupages that maintain the organoleptic richness that has made the area so prestigious.
