Borsao Tres Picos is an example of the finest Garnacha from Spain
The origins date back to 1958, the year in which the winery was purchased from an individual and the Borja Cooperative was founded. Thus, the original brand of Borsao was born. In 1981, the first bottles were marketed, and in 1991, the first exports were made.
A few years later, the cooperatives of Pozuelo and Tabuenca joined that of Borja, contributing their human resources and, most importantly, their vineyards. This union took place in 2001, creating a new company called Bodegas Borsao S.A.
The 700 members of the cooperatives and the management team drove the foundation of the new winery: first by setting the standards for the care of the vineyards, the harvest, and the reception of the grapes, and then by renewing the winery's facilities. After a continuous process of professionalization, currently 375 winegrowers form Bodegas Borsao.
The technological capacity, the modernity of the facilities, the great potential of the vineyards, and a meticulous sensitivity for well-done work form the basic pillars of the winery, consolidating the Borsao brand as the highest exponent in quality wines of our Denomination of Origin Campo de Borja.
Production
Borsao is a benchmark for the best Spanish Garnacha wines. They are one of the wineries that has best maintained and cared for this variety. They believe in it, especially in that of their region, and continue to work on improving the wines produced there.
Garnacha is resurging worldwide thanks to its fruit, its soft tannins, and its pleasant final taste in the mouth, which makes it a perfect variety to pair with food.
Garnacha is native to Aragon, where Borja is located. Its development in Europe is due to the expansion of the kingdom of Aragon, which spread Garnacha in the 19th century through the Rhone Valley, Italy, and Sardinia.
Today, Garnacha is the most planted red grape variety in the world. Other names for Garnacha include: Aragonés, Alicante, Cannonau, Garnaccho Negro, Garnacha Negra, Garnacha Roja, Garnacha Tinta, Grenache, Tintilla, Toledana, or Uva di Spagna.
Borsao Tres Picos
It is made with grapes from mountain vineyards aged 35 to 60 years, located at an altitude of 600–700 meters, with clay-limestone, stony, and silty soils.
The production process begins with maceration for 20–25 days in total, after which it ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of between 25º – 30º, and finally, the wine is aged for 5 months in new French oak Bordeaux barrels.
