Absinthe Philippe Lasala is a high alcoholic drink obtained from the distillation of several Mediterranean plants.

Destilerías Marí Mayans was founded in 1880 by Juan Marí Mayans. As a lover of aromatic and medicinal plants, and a student of their properties, he developed a clear vocation for the manufacture of drinks and liquers at that time.

It was through this careful collection of formulas and recipes from the past century, and intensive study of the effects and benefits of the island's wild aromatic plants, that Juan Marí Mayans was able to create the wonderful liquers for which Destilerías Marí Mayans is so well known.

Today, his 5th generation heirs continue to keep up the old tradition and craftsmanship, combining them with modern technology to offer these unique and unchanging drinks.

Marí Mayans Absinthe Bebida Espirituosa (Spirit Drink) has been produced since the founding of the distillery in approximately 1858 in Formentera where the building still stands. Officially registered in 1880 by Juan Marí Mayans, a herbalist known all over the region for his expertise in high quality distillation and knowledge of fine herbs. He moved the distillery to Ibiza where it is still run by his descendants.

It is made from distilling the leaves and stems of hand-picked Artemisia Absinthium (Wormwood) and is then macerated in herbs. The resulting spirit is a mesmerizing green that clouds when water is added (known as Louche). It is 100% natural and is created to this day using the same formula that made the distillery famous in the last century with exports to England, France, Germany and the rest of Europe.

Absinthe was allegedly invented by Dr. Pierre Ordinaire in 1792 as an all-purpose remedy. Used as a cure-all, it was nicknamed La Fée Verte or The Green Fairy; a nickname that has stuck.

Indeed Ernest Hemmingway referred to Absinthe as 'idea changing liquid alchemy' and Absinthe's artistic properties have formed the basis for its mysterious and sometimes controversial history.
