The Macallan The Reach is a tribute to the history, ingenuity and character of The Macallan.
Created in a turbulent time for the distillery and the world due to World War II, The Macallan The Reach is a work of art.
The History
The Macallan The Reach is a single malt that It was extracted from a single ex-Sherry barrel in which it has matured for the last 81 years. and whose release is limited to only 288 bottles for everyone.
His peaceful existence contrasts with the turbulent times in which It was distilled in 1940, crucial moment in the history of the world and in which the distillery had to close its doors for the first time.
Slowly aged over eight decades, its triumphant launch allows the brand, in the current era, to go back in history to that difficult moment.
While the dark brown liquid has a delicate softness, in line with the characteristic flavor of The Macallan, the complexity of its profile offers a range of flavors. There is a rich, sweet smoky flavor, attributable to the peat used when malting the barley and firing the stills during this period. The smoky note is subtle but unmistakable, and complements the antique oak.
In the words of Kirsteen Capbell, the Master Distiller of The Macallan: "Working on The Reach has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of my career; It's hard to put into words how special this whiskey is.".
The Macallan The Read is, according to the distillery, the oldest whiskey created by them.
The details
As a testament to the distillery's commitment to unrivaled craftsmanship, The Macallan The Reach's extraordinary and unique packaging has been crafted by a collective of Scottish artisans.
The handcrafted quartet of liquid, glass, bronze and wood, all housed in a specially designed cabinet, is a fitting tribute to a very special whisky.
The Macallan The Reach was distilled during World War II
This dark, burnished single malt whiskey is housed in a hand-blown glass decanter, cradled by three bronze hands produced by the Scottish sculptor Saskia Robinson and that present three individual impressions of the hands that hold it up. The three hands make an implicit nod to the decades that have passed during the whiskey's maturation.
A hand commemorates the distillery workers 1940, who made the spirit during difficult times. Another is the hand of the one who was president of The Macallan, Allan Shiach, whose grandfather ran the company when this spirit was first placed in its barrel.
The third is that of the master distiller Kirsteen Campbell, who carefully selected the special cask used to produce The Macallan The Reach and decided it was time to release this exquisite whiskey.
