Viña Real Crianza 2020 Wine

Wine made from grapes from the Rioja Alavesa region harvested by hand and made in Viña Real.

Viña Real designed by Bordeaux architect Philippe Mazières and opened in 2004. It is one of three wineries belonging to the CVNE group, owned by the same families that founded CVNE in Haro at the end of the 19th century.

Located at the top of a hill about halfway between Logroño and Laguardia, what you see when approaching the winery appears to be a gigantic wine cask standing on end. Inside, features include two large, underground barrel-ageing cellars and a circular barrel-ageing room under the domed roof.

Viña Real, like CVNE in Haro, transfers grapes to the fermentation vats by means of 'IFOs' or 'Identified Flying Objects', cylindrical stainless steel containers that are moved by cables and pulleys from the ceiling. The company's entry-level red, Viña Real Plata has provided consistent value and enjoyment for consumers in Spain for almost a century.

The destemmed grapes were placed in stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation takes place for 10-12 days with temperature control between 26-28 º C. The wine after malolactic fermentation happens to French oak barrels where it remains and American 13 - 14 months. The wine is racked barrel while in every 5-6 months to encourage proper ripening and organoleptic evolution.
