It is believed that amphorae filled with this dark German beer were interred in an Upper Franconian burial site dating back to 800 BC, making it one of the world’s oldest beer styles.
Its flavour harmonizes perfectly with roasts and mildly tangy cheeses. German-style Dark Beer is aromatic and only lightly bitter, with nuances ranging from coffee undertones to hints of liquorice.
It is best enjoyed slightly warmer, at an ideal serving temperature of 9–12 °C. Its alcohol strength ranges from 4.0 % to 5.5 %.
