Bumbu Rum Company

In Barbados, where the Original Bumbu is made, rum is not just another spirit. It is the original rum island, where rum was first created some 400 years ago. Barbadians have spent the last centuries perfecting the art of distillation and blending, the country's most famous export.

At Bumbu Rum Company, they craft their rums from a blend of the finest sugarcane they can find. Their rums are exceptionally well-balanced and smooth, without sacrificing the richness and complexity that make their distilleries in Barbados and Panama among the best in the world, even if they are a bit biased.

The Heart of Bumbu Rums

The heritage of Original Bumbu is not just historical, it's geological. Unlike most Caribbean islands (formed by volcanoes), Barbados was created by coral reefs. Here, its underground water is purified as it's forced through its natural limestone, making Barbadian water among the finest in the world.

This exceptionally pure water, along with the carefully selected sugarcane from across the Caribbean and South America, lends the lightness and smoothness that are fundamental to Bumbu's remarkable drinkability. Pure Bajan water is a part of every Bumbu bottle.

The Sugarcane

Their master distillers select sugarcane from some of the world's premier countries for crop production. The minerals and other elements present in the sugarcane contribute to unique characteristics when distilled into rum.

The Bumbu Rum Distillery

Original Bumbu is made in a historic distillery in Barbados established in 1893 and in continuous operation for over 120 years. The rum is distilled using two continuous stills. The yeast used during fermentation is a distillery secret dating back to 1840, when some of our original iron pot stills were cast.
