"Rum dissipates sadness , makes the heart happy, purifies the conscious and liberates the spirit" J.G.Guillame
On the foot of the Himalayans you will find an old distillery called Nepal Distilleries Pvt Ltd, the distillery where Coronation Khukri is produced with quality.
Nepal Distilleries was one of the first distilleries established in Nepal in 1959 by Mr. J.R. Contractor. He chose to build the distillery in Kathmandu because its cold weather and clean air were very important to obtain fresh water.
At the beginning the company distilled alcohol in ceramic stills that date back to 1870. These ceramic stills remain at the company today and serve as a memory of how the company started. Currently, the distillery produces rum through 3 large earthenware wooden jars where the rum matures for a minimum of 8 months.
The name Khukri is the name of the traditional Nepali knife from ancient times that the Gurkhas used as a symbol of power. Coronation Khukri was created to honour the coronation of the Nepal King Late Shree Panch Bir Bikram Shah Dev, in 1974. Each bottle is created by hand with a rough finish.
Coronation Khukri is subtle and complex natural rum that is characterizes by its smooth aroma and flavour. It is considered the finest rum in Nepal since 1959 and is designated as "The flavour of the Himalayas”.
Coronation Khukri was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2002 International Rum Festival. In 1983 it had already received this same award.
