AGUSTÍ TORELLÓ MATA: A Cava with Its Own Name
Agustí Torelló Mata was born in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia in 1935, the son of tailors and musicians. He started working at the age of 14 and at 18, he opened the first wine analysis laboratory in Sant Sadurni. In 1960, he married Carmen Sibill Cardús, beginning a life that would always revolve around cava and establishing him as one of the country's best oenologists.
A man dedicated to Cava, in 1955 he made his first 500 bottles of cava, while advising and managing significant companies in the sector for years. In 1978, he created his masterpiece: KRIPTA, recognized as one of the great sparkling wines of the world.
Under the current direction of his 2 children: Alex - oenologist, technical director and viticulture, and Gemma, lawyer and company administrator, they are a benchmark in family businesses of Cava.
