Buddha's hand is a citrus variety of oriental origin. The fruit, with a thick skin and rich in essential oils, is very fragrant and less bitter than other citrus fruits. Because of its aroma and smoothness, it is highly recommended for use in cocktails, where it also adds a delicate exotic touch.
Its appearance is very peculiar, as the fruit is divided into finger-like sections. It can be used as a religious offering in Buddhist temples and, according to legend, Buddha prefers it with the "fingers" in a position that resembles a closed hand, symbolising the act of prayer. |
