Sr. Forner determined to create a new style of Rioja, with less ageing in cask and more in the bottle: Marqués de Cáceres Crianza
The white wines were produced with fermentation at low tempersture, which gave crisper, cleaner, flavours. They were an immediate success in Britain and nowhere moreso than in Wales. Enrique Forner died recently and the company is now run by his daughter Cristina. Their modern cellars in Cenicero, at the heart of the Rioja Alta, are well worth a visit.
