Originally, the bitter in cocktails was the ingredient that distinguished cocktails from other types of drinks, such as Toddies, Slings, Fizzes, Sours or Punches.
During the Prohibition drinking was prohibited, and the bitters ingredient was almost forgotten. Only a few brands survived this period but after the Prohibition was over they did not have the resources to reintroduce their products into the market. Angostura Bitter was the only company able to do this.
Although the bitters cocktail was almost forgotten, it has made a comeback in recent years. Since 2006 the German company "The Bitter Truth" has played a large part in making the bitter cocktail was again popular.

Lebensstern Pink is a premium gin flavoured with a secret bitters recipe that gives it its unique colour and surprising flavours.
Only 1000 bottles are produced each year and only 400 are available in the Spanish market.
