Grant's Rum Cask Finish Whisky FAQs

Why finish Grant's for 4 months in barrels that have held rum?

According to Kinsman, Master Blender of Grant's Whisky, barrels that have held rum don't impart influence beyond 6 months, and two months would be insufficient, that's why in this final process, the average stay is 4 months, although the whisky has actually been in them for 3 to 5 months.

Why did Grant's finish the whisky in rum barrels?

For Kinsman, it's a marriage that works. Grant's never stops experimenting, they have tried many types of barrels over the years, and as a hallmark of the brand, when they find something that works and is scalable, they stick with it.

This experiment began using barrels from the range of William Grant's rums, such as OVD, Wood's, and Sailor Jerry. But now they are creating a supply of rum barrels according to their specifications, says Kinsman.

Caribbean rum barrels are very unreliable: when they come in or go out, how many times they have been filled. With the new system, the rum spends about six months in the barrels before they are emptied and filled with whisky.
