Aniseed Cream is a light and silky cream made from a mixture of fresh cream and Anís del Mono.
The history of Anís del Mono begins at the end of the 19th century and is built on anecdotes and inspirations from all over the world, the first of which is the origin of its name: Vicente Bosch, the creator of Anís del Mono, once received as a business gift a friendly little monkey from America, who ended up baptizing the brand.
The story that inspired the design of the bottle was much more romantic. Bosch himself was looking for a special gift for his wife and it was in the Place Vendôme in Paris where he found the perfect perfume and, in it, the inspiration for his diamond-cut bottle that has become the standard in the category.
The label of the bottle also contains some curiosities that make it a symbol of identity, such as the spelling error of distillation, which still remains today. But perhaps the most significant is the face of the monkey itself: its humanoid features are based on Charles Darwin himself! No doubt a nod to the debate at the time about the theory of evolution.
The Monkey's Anise Factory in Badalona is a modernist jewel that has been preserved for its artistic and heritage value. From the distillation room where the aniseed is produced by hand, to the archive, it retains all the flavour of an era.
On 7 July 2012, a statue in honour of Anís del Mono was inaugurated on the Badalona promenade: a 200-kilogram monkey sculpted in bronze.
But this story does not end here and becomes even sweeter ... Because in the V Edition of the Contest for the Best Pastry Specialty of 2012 the students of the school of pastrymaking of Barcelona replicated the statue in chocolate! Isn't it a chocoholic?
