Disaronno is the “world’s favourite Italian liqueur”.
In 1525 the Italian artist Bernardino Luini, from the Leonardo da Vinci school, was hired to paint a fresco of "La Adoración de los Magos" in the Santa Maria Basilica in Saronno, Italy.
When Luini stayed in a small town in Italy a model that he painted created a sweet, amber elixir for him. Luini greatly appreciated the gesture and since then the liquor has been converted into a symbol of affection.
At the end of the 18th century, a man named Domenico Reina opened a drugstore in the Plaza of Liberty (in Saronno) that became very popular, and it was here that he created the recipe of Disaronno based on the original creation of the model.
Since then the Reina family has guarded its secret formula and it continues to be produced in the Saronno distillery.
