Lucas Bols BV is the oldest Dutch company still active, and the oldest distillery brand in the world. Since April 2006 it is back in Dutch hands thanks to a buy-out by the management and investor AAC Capital Partners. Lucas Bols has returned to the city where it all began in 1575: Amsterdam. Bols liqueurs are significantly better than those of the competition in many respects. This commercial message has now been established as fact in a study by CSO, the well-known international institute for taste and aroma research. A 24-member team of neutral panellists recently reached the conclusion (with staggering - but pleasant for Bols! - certainty) that Bols liqueurs are far ahead of the competition.

The taste and aroma test conducted by the panel focused on the ten most important flavours of Bols and its competitors. In the blind test, Bols products scored particularly well as far as natural and full-bodied aroma are concerned, and where a full-bodied and soft flavour are involved. Bols liqueurs were judged as significantly better than the other brands over the whole line. CSO also conducted qualitative research. Fourteen international bartenders shared their views with the interviewers as to quality and applicability. The bartenders said, among other things, that they preferred Bols for its "real", fruity flavour, the excellent aroma and the proper density of the liqueurs. According to the bartenders, professionals always need new products with fruity flavours and strong, clear colours.

Bols Lychee fully captures the rich fruity mouth feel of fresh lychee fruit. In Japan, where lychee liqueur is a million-litre-per-year business, consumers have rated Bols Lychee over three times higher than its competitors in independent tests. Since its launch in Asia in 2003, Bols Lychee has become popular all over the world, with amongst others The Lychee Martini as its leading drink. The Lucas Bols Master Distiller has developed a unique extraction process to obtain the rich sweet lychee flavour from its fruit, which has resulted in this best in class quality lychee liqueur. The lychee has a history of cultivation going back as far as 2000 BC according to records in China. Cultivation began in the area of southern China, Malaysia and Vietnam. Thanks to its popularity in Japan, Bols now sells Bols Lychee around the world.
