Centuries ago, Pinwinnie was the name of a tract of land in the historic district of Monklands, in the heart of central Scotland, during the time when the land belonged to the Cistercian monks of Newbattle Abbey, founded on the banks of the River Esk in 1141 by King David I of Scotland. These monks were renowned for whisky distillation and the production of a mystical potion which, according to legend, granted strength and courage to those who drank it and was often taken by the King's soldiers before going into battle.
Today, Pinwinnie proudly continues its unique heritage.
