Arehuca's Toffee Cream has the perfect harmony of aroma and flavour as it is elaborated with the best selection of distilled sugarcane and dairy cream and its aromatic base
History
On August 9, 1884, The San Pedro Factory was inaugurated in Arucas, Gran Canaria, dedicated mainly to the production of sugar, and to a lesser extent to the production of cane brandy and rum, the precursor of the current Arehucas Distilleries. The artisan process to convert cane juice into rum, combined with the use of modern sugar mills, made "La Fábrica", as it was popularly known, obtain its first successes.
In 1885 the first grinding was obtained with 5,619,540 Kgs of sugar cane.
The quality of its liquors made it worthy of the Silver and Bronze Cup and the Title of Suppliers of the Spanish Royal House and Court, which was granted to it by the Queen Regent Doña María Cristina of Austria.
The year was 1892, only 8 years after the inauguration of La Fábrica, and the rum coming out of Arucas was already highly appreciated all over the islands.
"We have one of the largest and oldest rum cellars in Europe."
In 1909 a Guillaume system still was acquired from the Egrot et Grangé factory (Paris), to improve the quality of the rums. At the beginning of the 20th century, years of crisis and war, Arehucas continued to grow thanks to the quality of our rum and the efforts of its workers.
The factory entered strongly in the 40's, already with Don Alfredo Martín Reyes as its manager. During these years, the name Arehucas Rum was born, known as "el de las llaves" (the one with the keys), due to the symbolism of Saint Peter in its different labels.
In 1965 the factory was renamed Destilerías Arehucas and a period of expansion began, based on an intention to collaborate with the social and cultural community of the Canary Islands.
In 2006 Destilerías Arehucas acquired the Artemi Liquor Factory, thus forming the largest group of distillates and spirits in the Canary Islands, in order to maintain the history of Canary Island rum and its historical link with the archipelago.
