In 1881, Félix Azpilicueta founded Bodegas Azpilicueta, today known as Bodegas AGE, in Fuenmayor, right in the heart of the Rioja Alta. Over a century later, Bodegas AGE reflects the efforts of several generations of dedication to the production and ageing of prestigious Rioja wines.
The vineyards mainly consist of grapes of the Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano varieties.
There are 165 vats for the vinification process, and the total capacity in terms of reception of grapes is 7,000,000 kg. Of the 30,000 casks, 70% are made of American oak and 30% from French oak. The bodega's bottle cellar has capacity to store 2,000,000 bottles
Siglo now has a new image which brightens up the brand, while keeping the symbols of its identity intact. An image which sublimates the values of Siglo: a traditional wine, a natural wine, the same as it has always been, a classic Rioja. A wine which is untouched by the passing of time and changing fashions, and which reminds consumers of the best of our land.
Separation of destemmed and crushed Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes. One week's fermentatioon at a controlled temperature between 25º and 28ºC. During this time the maceration and continuous pumping over help extract the maximum colour.
Racked after fermentation to remove the lees deposited at the botrom of the vats. Having cleaned the wine, it was in 225 litre American Oak cask for one year and once bottled, aged in the bottle cellar for a minimum of 6 months.
