Best land, best wines, best illusion...
The birth of Bodegas Franco-Españolas is due, indirectly, to one of the unhappiest incidents in the wine history of France.A phylloxera plague in the second half of the 19th century almost completely ruined the French vineyards. Because of this, the Bordeaux wine makers -region well known for it´s high quality vineyards and tradition in the elaboration of worldwide prestigious wines- decided to leave the country. They came to Spain in search of the best soil and climate, where they could continue to grow and age the wines which had brought them such fame.

Today Bodegas Franco-Españolas occupies 59,000 m2 of land in Logroño, the capital of La Rioja. One quarter of this area is dedicated to buildings in whose vaulted cellars and at a constant temperature, first the most prestigious Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines from our wineries are kept in American white oak barrels and later in bottles.
Its beautiful architecture and the beauty of its image remain perennial. Its restless and innovative staff are no strangers to evolution and perfectly combine respect for tradition and technological innovation to produce the Great Wines that are the guarantee of a history of more than one hundred years.
In January 2004, Bodegas Franco Españolas was the first winery to obtain the "BRC GLOBAL STANDARD FOOD 2003" certification, a certificate of approval for its quality management, which places the winery at the highest levels in the international framework. This recognition is a seal of guarantee for the consumer.
ELABORATION
Stripping of the bunch and gentle crushing of the berries. The fermentation of the must was carried out in contact with the skins of the grapes and several pumping overs were made daily (a practice that favours the extraction of colour and the homogenisation of the temperature). The duration of fermentation was 9 days and was prolonged for 5 days, plus the permanence of the wine in contact with the skins.
