More information Prado Enea Gran Reserve 2016 Wood Wine
The history of Bodegas Muga begins in 1932, when the estate was created by Isaac Muga Martínez and his wife, Auro Caño, both descendants of local winemaking families. The pair established themselves in the center of Haro, a town at the west end of the Rioja Alta region.
Isaac died in 1969, leaving the estate to his three children, who oversaw Isaac's envisaged relocation, which included the construction of a new bodega topped off with a tower. The cellars include not only the usual fermentation and aging rooms, but also a coppery, providing the family with a constant supply of oak barrels, which are central to the Muga style.

Prado Enera Gran Reserva
The grapes used for making Prado Enea, along with those for Torre Muga, are always the last ones to be brought into the winery. This late picking ensures ideal ripening. The grapes are then fermented naturally in 10,000-kilo oak vats with no temperature control or added yeasts. The maceration time can vary and may go on for up to twenty days. This wine is aged in 16,000-litre capacity oak vats for twelve months and then (minimum) thirty-six months in oak casks and (minimum) thirty-six months in the bottle. After cask-ageing, the wine is gently fined using fresh egg whites.
Elaboration
Prado Enea grapes are always the last to be harvested. They are a careful selection of high altitude plots of high quality, located in the northwest of La Rioja Alta, in the municipalities of Sajazarra, Cellorigo and Fonzaleche.
The grapes ferment in oak vats without temperature control or the addition of yeast. The maceration period is 16 days. This is followed by a minimum of 36 months in French and American oak barrels. At the end of the ageing period, the wine is lightly clarified with fresh egg whites before being bottled and kept in our cellars for at least another 36 months to complete the ageing process.

Tasting Notes | Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2015 has an intense, attractive, medium-high cherry-red colour. On the nose it shows an elegant array of black fruits with spicy tones, ginger biscuits and liquorice. The smooth and ample entrance leads to a powerful palate with a sensation of power and a light volume. We find velvety tannins in perfect harmony with its fresh and well-integrated acidity. We also find creamy and vanilla notes mixed with fresh fruit. |
