An essential red wine to understand the DO Ribera del Duero.
Alejandro Fernández is the living image of a self-made man. As a young man he had always dreamt of setting up his own winery and making great red wines while he was making a living doing different jobs.
Continuing the family tradition learned from his father, Alejandro would make wine each year from the grapes of his small vineyards. However, he had to wait until 1972 to have his own real winery. It had a small 16th century winepress where almost the whole production process was conducted. Ten years would pass before the Tinto Pesquera winery would look more or less the same as it does today. The ancient winepress, however, still survives to this day.

The first years were not easy. It was common practice at the time to uproot vines and substitute them for irrigated crops like beetroot. However, Alejandro carried on planting vines and was the first to introduce the espalier system (in the “Viña Alta” vineyard) to the area.
Today, more than 200 hectares of beautiful vineyards supply the winery. Some vines grow on gravel terraces and others on high tablelands (like the “Llano Santiago” vineyard at over 1,000 metres above sea level). All of them provide their nuances to the renowned Pesquera red wines.
 Pesquera Vineyards
All the vineyards are planted with Tempranillo vines, the “queen of grapes” and the delicate variety in which Alejandro is a master.
Today, the results of such great efforts are known and appreciated around the world. These are red wines in which the wood is enormously respectful to the fruit. Wines that gain in complexity and nuances as the years go by without losing their original character. These are Pesquera red wines.

Tasting Notes | LOOK: Clear and shiny appearance. Cherry-red colour with a violet rim. SMELL: Hints of black fruits, blackberries and plums. With spicy notes and hints of vanilla and liquorice, giving it a nuanced complexity that will evolve with the passage of time. TASTE: Powerful with rounded tannins that give rise to a silky, clear wine, with refreshing varietal characteristics that reappear under the tongue after the first few seconds in the mouth. Notes intertwined with the smoky notes of fine wood. Very pleasing to the palate, with a fruity aftertaste where blackberry and liquorice predominate, giving way to a final spicy finish. |
