More than 50 years giving life to the authentic wines of Alicante.
The origin of Santa Catalina del Mañán, popularly known in its beginnings as Bodega del Mañán, dates back to 1962 with the foundation of a large winery in the Mañán plain, Monóvar.
The current winery owes its name to the patron saint of the town, and has been expanded over the years to reach a harvest of 5.5 million kilos of grapes and a stock of French oak barrels and American oak casks for aged wines, as well as the wine that has characterised the province of Alicante throughout history, Fondillón.
The winery's history is the result of the initiative of around thirty farmers with their own wineries, who came together to solve a logistical problem in terms of wine transport, creating the great Mañán winery, with better facilities, logistical conditions and location.
Brave and hard-working winegrowers, among whom we highlight Francisco Paya Hernández and Silvestre Pérez, as the founders and architects of such a fruitful union.
And as a result, we enjoy a wide range of young wines, wines in barrel, as well as special wines, Moscatel and Fondillón, all of them with a very careful elaboration. Wines that are in demand from all corners of Spain, opening the way for us to export to countries in the European Union.
Years of hard work in close collaboration with its members have led Bodega Santa Catalina to differentiate itself by its closeness and simplicity, demonstrating great professionalism, in a clear commitment to the promotion and culture of wine in Alicante.
As a demonstration of this eagerness to promote and make known the richness of the long winemaking tradition of our area, taking an active part as one of the wineries of Alicante participating in the Alicante Wine Route, being Monóvar a founding member.
Our 879 hectares of own vineyards guarantee the homogeneity in each of our wines and the stability in their quality year after year.
Each wine is unique thanks to the diversity of our vineyards. The diversity of soils (limestone, sandy, stony and clay soils), the climate, the geology, the variety of the vines and the style of their production are decisive, although variable, factors that give rise to wines with a unique character.
We combine traditional glassware cultivation with the most modern cultivation of trellises, with great concern and respect for the environment, enjoying part of our production with the certification of organic agriculture, offering a complete range of organic wine in all its varieties.
Marisquero is elaborated with grapes Moscatel and Macabeo, an ideal wine to taste alone very cold and to accompany tapas.
