More information Les Freses 2023 Wine
The history of Les Freses begins near the town of Jesús Pobre, at the foot of Montgó hill. It is the story of a grape that was once a strawberry. The history of a crop that today is a vineyard.
A land that saw the emergence of the first winery in Europe centuries ago and that today sees our vineyards grow. A way of understanding life that breathes sea and salt. The perfect blend of past and future that results in a wine with Mediterranean flavour and character.
A single 8.5 ha estate in Denia, in the Montgó Natural Park, La Marina Alta, Alicante, a privileged location at sea level. A single objective, to restore dignity to the Muscatel. In an old strawberry plantation that we reconverted in 2009, it offers us clay plots, limestone and sea sand, an expression of our terroir, where the muscatel thrives, something that the Iberians of l'Alt de Benimaquia already knew when in the 7th century B.C. they established their first vineyard in Denia. VII century B.C. they established their settlement and built the winery, dated as the oldest in Europe. We want to "tell" through our wines, the greatness of the variety, not only for liqueurs or desert wines, but also for great dry white wines for their aromatic and taste potential.
VARIETALS AND ELABORATION
100% Muscat of Alexandria (different clones, rootstocks and sub-varieties) planted on double guyot trellis with an average production per hectare of 3500 kg/ha. The grapes were harvested by hand in 12 kg crates with a sorting and destemming table. The grapes were harvested between 15 August and 29 September, plot by plot according to their optimum ripeness.
Fermentation starts with our own yeasts from a vat foot 5 days before the harvest and is kept at a controlled temperature of 14 °C in stainless steel tanks.
Ageing
3 months on fine lees in the first batch of 2300 bottles, bottled on 18 November. 4 months in the second batch, bottled on 29 January 2020 of the remaining 22666 bottles of 0.75 litres.
