More information Lepanto 8 Pesetas stamp Brandy
LEPANTO is without a doubt one of the prides of Gonzalez Byass.
The origin of distillation in Jerez dates back to the time of the Arab domination, 13th-14th centuries, from which the denominations used today come, alembic, alquitar,... Subsequently the history of wine and brandy de Jerez run parallel.
Since the 18th century sherry exporters have been distilling alcohol to "top" their wines. However, some time had to pass before Jerez winemakers noticed the marvellous evolution undergone by wine distillates when they were aged in wooden casks previously used for sherry wine. Since the middle of the 19th Century Gonzalez Byass has been one of the protagonists of this exciting history of Brandy de Jerez, one of the world's great distillates.
The brandys of Gonzalez Byass are the result of years of experience and oenological knowledge; but also of a deep love for this product, an inseparable and complementary companion to sherry wine. Holandas, a 60-64% vol. wine distillate, preserve the volatile components of the wine by enriching the brandy with the original components of the wine. As is traditional in the area, Gonzalez Byass ages its brandys through the criaderas and solera system, using American oak casks which have previously been used to age sherry wine. In this way, the oak is prepared to receive the holandas or distillates and will give them all their personality throughout the years of aging. Gonzalez Byass treats the production of its sherry wines and brandies with the same care. In this second case the criaderas are fed with the youngest distillates, following the same treatment as the wines, until they reach the solera. The different degrees of ageing and the use of different types of wine distillates will basically determine the final characteristics of Brandy de Jerez. In accordance with its age, the Specific Denomination Brandy de Jerez differentiates three categories: the brandys known as "Solera", "Solera Reserva" and "Solera Gran Reserva".
LEPANTO is without doubt one of the prides of González Byass. Only selected holandas become part of the Lepanto criaderas. The road to the Solera is especially slow here. Up to fifteen different scales make up the particular breeding system of this unique "Solera Gran Reserva".
Holandas of extraordinary quality, century-old oak barrels and time. This is the whole recipe and this is where all its greatness lies.
Lepanto, an exceptional brandy which has placed Brandy de Jerez at the level of the great distillates of the world.
