Juan Haurie y Sobrinos recalls the creation of Brandy
Juan Haurie y Sobrinos Solera Gran Reserva is a tribute to Juan José Haurie, one of the most important wine merchants in the Jerez region, as well as a visionary and founder of the Haurie y Sobrinos company, which was founded in 1733.
Juan Haurie belonged to the Domecq family, was an oeno-chemist by profession and an expert in making wine from the Palomino grape. This ability to make wine contrasted with his low profile as a merchant.
The story goes that one day he received an order from an English merchant, three containers of a particular sherry. When the order was ready to be delivered, the client cancelled the order and Juan was forced to put all that sherry back into the cellar's solera. Over the years, he tasted it and was very surprised at how this wine had evolved and decided to distil it to make it smooth.
This is how he discovered the production of Brandy, and in homage to this illustrious family, the descendants have decided to give the brandy its name.
