(+) de 50 is one of the few "Alicante Singular" wines in the Alicante D.O.
(+) de 50 because the winemaker has over 50 years of experience.
(+) de 50 because the vineyard for this wine is over 50 years old.
(+) de 50 because the vineyard's production is limited to just over 50 barrels.
(+) de 50 is the "Alicante Singular" wine from Bodegas Volver, a distinction within the Alicante D.O. that highlights the highest quality wines in the region, emphasizing the connection between the unique soil conditions and viticulture: It values the plot of origin of the wine and its status as an indigenous varietal.
This wine has undergone strict traceability, independently recorded by the Alicante D.O.
The origin of the unique plot cannot change over the years, as it would lose the mention, as the singularity provided by the set of conditions that support a report detailing the reasons for its singularity in terms of soil, climate, main or historical varieties, production, and organoleptic characteristics would be lost.
All these factors have been strictly reviewed and will be annually validated by the CRDOP Alicante.
Certified Alicante Singular D.O.
Vineyard over 50 years old on very poor soils with a high percentage of limestone, with mandatory lower yields that promote higher quality and differentiation.
Unique vineyard planted in vase under strict dryland conditions, delimited, controlled, and certified by the Alicante D.O. Hand-harvested and processed completely independently of other winemaking processes within the winery.
A wine of limited production, limited to a single plot, entirely dependent on the particular climatic conditions of each year.
The Vineyard
Monastrell from the unique "La Cruz" plot, located in El Rodriguillo at 670 meters above sea level, facing southeast.
A vineyard with over 50 years of age, planted in vase and under strict dryland conditions, with roots growing in limestone soils with low organic matter influenced by the Mediterranean climate and low rainfall. All of this results in very small, firm berries with a strong aroma and smooth tannins that define the singularity of this plot.
The Production of (+) de 50
In the first week of October and by hand, the best clusters are selected, using boxes of no more than 5 kg, which are immediately transported to the winery located just 2 km away.
These grapes are passed through a selection table before destemming, and then they go to open tanks where, after a slight maceration, fermentation takes place with native yeasts.
Finally, the wine ages in French oak barrels for 10 months, where malolactic fermentation occurs. Limited and certified production of 15,000 bottles.
