January 10th, 1929 marked the start of a grand journey for a young Majorcan named Julián Barceló. This day he left Mallorca, his native island, to travel to the Dominican Republic in search of new challenges. Once in Santa Domingo he started the great adventure of creating his own distillery.
Barcelo & Co was founded in 1930. As with all businesses, the first few years were difficult. Julián took his old Ford van and tirelessly promoted his quality rums to all corners of the country without much success. However, as time passed his efforts were rewarded and Barceló & Co was transformed into a national industry power.
When Julián Barceló passed away, his nephew Miguel Barceló managed the direction of the company, continuing with his uncle´s methods and beliefs, and the company was further transformed into a basic pillar of the Dominican economy.
In 1980 Don Miguel Barceló created Barceló Imperial, the finest reserve of Dominican rum.
Barceló Imperial is an amber rum which is crystal clear, outstandingly bright, warm, and well balanced. It is created with fine alcohols, excellent wood, tropical fruit flavours, and figs. This magnificent rum contains delicate hints of vanilla and molasses and is smooth and aromatic.
Barceló Imperial has been categorized as the Best Rum in the World by the Beverage Institute of Chicago with a score of 97 out of 100. Barceló guarantees that annual production is limited to 15 series of 32 barrels, which produce 8,464 bottles each.
