The White Oak Distillery is located 30 kilometers west of Kobe City, in an area whose proximity to the sea strongly influences the climate. Founded by a family producing shochu and sake since 1679, White Oak was the first distillery in Japan to obtain a distillation license in 1888. Discontinuous production of a barley-based alcohol began in 1919 in parallel with the production of shochu and sake. But it was in 1984 that new facilities exclusively dedicated to the production of malt whiskey were established on the Eigashima site.
