Rioja Reserve Red Wine
Mirto de Ramón Bilbao is a careful selection of old vineyard plots with vines of more than 70 years old in areas bordering on cultivation (Haro, Ollauri, Gimileo, Cihuri, Villalba and Cuzcurrita) harvested from the first week of October.
History begins at the end of the 19th century. The BILBAO MURGA family, with its progenitor D. Ramón at the head, markets the Ramón Bilbao and Viña Turzaballa wines.
1924 was the official year of the winery's foundation, in which Don Ramon Bilbao made his long-held dream come true and the longed-for desire to produce quality wines in the emblematic town of Haro (La Rioja) began to take shape. He is an advanced winemaker in the area, making young wines and ageing some of them, being one of the pioneers in the art of ageing.
All his wines are made in stainless steel tanks with the best technology, controlling scrupulously parameters such as fermentation temperature, evolution, and completion of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, colour extraction, etc.
At present, the winery is being adapted to house oak wood fermentation tanks, fermentation vats of approximately 20,000 litres, to produce wines in the style used at the beginning of the century, thus recovering this artisan tradition. In this way they will obtain wines in which the care, selection and attention will be even greater.
A wine with a heart. The Tempranillo grape from old vines in all its expression. A modern wine, with a great personality, accustomed to being at the top of the most demanding rankings.
Everything is art in this wine: from the moment the bunches are chosen at the winery's selection table to the fermentation in small French oak vats.
After a careful temperature-controlled fermentation to achieve the maximum extraction of aromas and colour, the wine is transferred to barrels where the malolactic fermentation takes place without racking, only the lees are removed using the periodic "bâtonnage" technique.
It completes a period of 24 months in new French Allier oak barrels whose level of toasting has been specially selected for that vintage. The wine is bottled without any clarification or filtration process.

Intense ruby-red colour with violet glints. Clean and bright with signs of “legs” or “tears”. On the nose it has clean, open aromas of great intensity. The reflection of ripe tempranillo grapes, aromas of fresh red-berry fruit, liquorice, and notes of mountain heath (dry leaves, wood bark and aromatic herbs like rosemary). The time in the wood provides fine, elegant nuances of black pepper, cumin, tobacco and chocolate. Intense, juicy and long on the palate. Medium acidity, polished tannins, well-integrated alcohol and a long, intense finish in which the ripe red fruit, liquorice and oak all reappear. All in all, it is a balanced, harmonious wine which is still evolving and has the potential for a long life ahead of it.
