More information Graffigna Malbec (Argentina) Wine
In 1865 Don Juan Graffigna arrived in Argentina. This immigrant of Italian origin not only brought with him a great viticultural experience gained in his native country, but also excellent varieties of European grapes, which he incorporated into our soils, with ideal characteristics for the cultivation of vines. Later, Juan Graffigna called on his nephew, Santiago Graffigna, who was also an immigrant of the same origin.
Santiago started the activities of the winery in 1870. At that time the business was more than small, especially due to the lack of transport. It produced white and red wine from grapes originating in France, high quality generics, which were sold in hulls. The first "generosos" also appeared; one of the first products was the "Don Santiago".
With the arrival of the railway to the city of San Juan, in 1885, it brought progress, the winery's sales, which already had a foreign market, multiplied by ten. Modern machines and elaboration techniques were introduced, and the production of higher quality wines began.
Bodegas Graffigna currently executes a strong investment plan that includes the incorporation of state-of-the-art agro-industrial technology, equipment and modern winemaking techniques, which allow us to increase production and storage capacity by exporting all its products to more than forty countries.
Most of its vineyards are located in the south-central part of the province of San Juan, in the Tulúm Valley. The winery has two large vineyards, one in the Pocito department and the other in Cañada Honda and Pedernal in the Sarmiento department. Its vineyards are located between 700 and 1600 meters above sea level.
