More information Finca Antigua Merlot Wine

At the beginning of 1998, in Family Martínez Bujanda we decided to initiate a new project for the construction of a new bodega. We began to look for new areas where the family could continue to produce estate-grown quality wines, as is our norm. For this purpose, we explored various vine growing areas throughout Spain, including La Mancha. After ruling out a number of vineyards in different regions, Finca Antigua was discovered.

Located between the provinces of Cuenca and Toledo , in the best area of the La Mancha D.O., we founded Finca Antigua, which was named after the old vines growing there at the time when the vineyard was acquired.

The exceptionallity is the hallmark of our cellar, since each plot is intended for the development of a different wine, ensuring  an unique and inimitable flavor.

The high altitude combined with the loam soil, high limestone content and little organic matter are the perfect symbiosis to allow the grapes to ripen.

Inaugurated in March 2003, this 1000 hectare estate, has 421 hectares (over a 1000 acres) under  vines  with varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah amongst others. This single estate vineyard has provided the  perfect setting to let the winemaker´s imagination and creativity run wild, with plantations and plots of international varieties growing closely with local varieties.

FINCA ANTIGUA MERLOT

A characteristic cherry red color and violet trim for a wine with vegetable, floral and spicy aromas. Light touches of toffee and toasted because of its 5 months of ageing in French oak barrels. Polished tannins and balanced acidity with alcohol. In mouth it is full of volume and density and has a long friendly aftertasting because of its fine tannin.

Ideal to accompany Japanese dishes as well as dried fish. Perfect for white meats and soft cheeses from cow and sheep.

Tasting Notes:

Visual Phase: Clear and bright. Deep red colour with a violet rim. High intensity.

Aromas: Great intensity, with floral and plant aromas (nettle, camomile, tea and eucalyptus) and spices such as cloves and vanilla. Slight hints of toasted wood and toffee, from its cask ageing. Very elegant and sensual on the nose.

Tasting Phase: The entry is smooth yet decisive (full tannin), showing a perfectly polished tannin and medium acidity balanced with the alcohol. It offers a mouth-filling sensation and has a long aftertaste and pleasant finish due to its fine tannin.

Matching: Ideal for accompanying Japanese dishes. A good match for dry fish such as monkfish or gilt head fish. It makes a good accompaniment to white meat and is perfect for drinking with soft cow’s and sheep’s milk cheeses.
