Garvey presents the most expensive brandy in the world: Conde de Garvey Brandy Solera Gran Reserva .
This brandy is drawn from five casks which have always been reserved in the winery for family use. Conde de Garvey Brandy Solera Gran Reserva is a very old brandy, 200 solera years plus more than 60 years without being touched, ageing in the cask. It is now available on the market.
These casks each have a padlock and key, which shows the history of the precious treasure. That is why our presentation box also includes its own padlock.
History tells us that the founder of the winery William Garvey Power, whose original business was merino sheep, used to travel from County Waterford in Ireland, his homeland, to Spain to crossbreed his sheep. One day on his last trip his ship sank in the Bay of Cadiz, where he was rescued by a captain in the Spanish Navy, Rafael Gomez. The captain’s hospitality took Mr Garvey to his house in Puerto Real to recover from the shock, where he fell in love with Mr Gomez´s daughter Sebastiana Gomez Jimenez. Sebastiana and the pleasant weather made him stay in the south of Spain, where he was married and started a new life in the wine trade, about which he knew absolutely nothing. He was well advised and with his unique intelligence, honesty and ability, made a career in the wine trade.
They did not recover much from the ship, but he got back the padlocks and chains used to transport the sheep. Later he decided to use them, to commemorate the day he met his wife, as locks to keep the brandy chosen for his personal use, the brandy to which he gave his name, Conde de Garvey . He used to lock them himself every night, as did his heirs.
Only the proprietors kept the keys, and selected the holandas (high quality grape alcohol) to top up the casks. These holandas were distilled in the winery, thanks to the still that the Garvey family brought from the Charente to produce brandy, and remains in the winery to this day.
When Jose Maria Ruiz-Mateos discovered these five brandy casks he wanted to share the experience with others so he started commercialising this brandy for the first time, putting it on the market as Conde de Garvey.
On Saint Patrick’s Day the first brandy was drawn for bottling. The current countess of Garvey and president of the Garvey Group, Lourdes Dávila Ybarra, presided the occasion.
With this Solera Gran Reserva Brandy, which is characterised by that complexity which only age can give, its mahogany colour from the old colonial American oak laths, the smell of herbs, leather, tobacco, and cocoa all mixed in harmony which inundate the pallet with sensations. We are drinking the history of Garvey, which is also part of the history of Brandy de Jerez.
Conde de Garvey is presented in a handmade wooden box engraved in gold, with an exclusive lock. The bohemian glass bottle is blown in the traditional way, engraved in silver, with a silver neck and glass stopper.
The stopper is made from oak and the finest quality cork. All the bottles are numbered by hand and there are only 3.000.
